group of dermatologists engaged in the field of allergological
and environmental dermatology who established the Italian
Research Group on Contact and Environmental Dermatitis
in 1982 (GIRDCA). This group, the oldest and one of
the most respected in the Italian Society of Dermatology
and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (SIDeMaST), has produced,
over the years, a great number of studies and a body
of research as well as didactic, formative and informatory
activities. In recent years the increasing interest
in this sector of dermatology, the high standards of
several medical structures and the growing attention
of dermatologists and other medicians to GIRDCA's activities
have drawn a great number of members to GIRDCA. For
these reasons the organizational and scientific management
of the group has become more difficult.
The emerging necessity
of giving a wider breath to GIRDCA's activities moved
44 members of GRIDCA to establish the Italian Society
of Allergological, Environmental and Occupational Dermatology
(SIDAPA) in May 1999. The aim of Society is to promote
the sector of allergological, occupational and environmental
dermatology in accordance with other dermatological
societies and especially with SIDeMaST.
